Ingredients
  

For the beef patties
  • 1 pound ground beef Use lean ground beef for best results.
  • 1/2 cup bread crumbs Plain or seasoned breadcrumbs can be used.
  • 1/4 cup onion, finely chopped Use yellow or white onions for flavor.
  • 1 each egg Acts as a binder for the patties.
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce Adds a savory umami flavor.
  • to taste Salt and pepper Adjust seasoning according to preference.
For the gravy
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil For cooking the patties and vegetables.
  • 1 cup mushrooms, sliced Use any variety of mushrooms.
  • 1/2 cup onion, sliced Additional onions for the gravy.
  • 2 cups beef broth Use low sodium for a healthier option.
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch For thickening the gravy.
  • 1 tablespoon water To mix with cornstarch for slurry.

Method
 

Preparation of Patties
  1. In a bowl, combine ground beef, bread crumbs, chopped onion, egg, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Shape into oval patties.
Cooking the Patties
  1. In a large pan, heat olive oil over medium heat.
  2. Cook patties until browned on both sides, about 3-4 minutes per side. Remove from the pan.
Making the Gravy
  1. In the same pan, add sliced mushrooms and onions, and sauté until softened.
  2. Return the patties to the pan and pour in the beef broth. Simmer for 10-15 minutes.
  3. Mix cornstarch with water to create a slurry, add to the pan to thicken the gravy.
Serving
  1. Serve patties with gravy on top.

Notes

For added flavor, consider using beef bouillon cubes or incorporating different spices into the beef mixture. You can also blend the sautéed mushrooms and onions for a smoother gravy.
