Ingredients
  

Dry Ingredients
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour can be substituted with gluten-free flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
Wet Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup softened butter ensure it's at room temperature
  • 1 cup granulated sugar can be reduced by 1/4 cup for less sweetness
  • 2 large eggs make sure they are at room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Optional Add-ins
  • 1 cup chopped nuts optional, can be substituted with dried fruits
  • 1 cup chocolate chips optional, consider adding extra for richer flavor

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a baking dish.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a separate large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until the mixture is light and fluffy.
Mixing
  1. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then mix in the vanilla extract until well combined.
  2. Gradually stir the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined.
  3. If desired, gently fold in the nuts and chocolate chips.
Baking
  1. Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish and smooth the top.
  2. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  3. Allow the dish to cool before cutting into squares.

Notes

Store the cut squares in an airtight container at room temperature for up to three days. Refrigerate for up to a week or freeze for up to three months. Make sure to cool completely before freezing.
