Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3 tablespoons vegetable oil or lard You can use vegetable oil for a lighter flavor or lard for a richer texture.
  • 3/4 cup warm water Make sure the water is warm to help hydrate the dough.

Method

Preparation
  1. In a large bowl, mix the flour, baking powder, and salt until well combined.
  2. Add the vegetable oil (or lard) and warm water to the dry ingredients.
  3. Knead the dough using your hands or a mixer until it is smooth and elastic, about 5 minutes.
  4. Divide the dough into small balls, roughly the size of a golf ball, and let them rest for 15 to 30 minutes.
Cooking
  1. On a floured surface, roll each ball into a thin circle.
  2. Heat a skillet over medium heat. Cook each tortilla for about 1 minute on each side, or until golden brown spots appear.
  3. Remove from the skillet and keep warm until you’re ready to serve.

Notes

For best results, use high-quality ingredients and keep an eye on the skillet to avoid burning the tortillas.
