  • 1 lb ground beef Use quality ground beef for better flavor.
  • 4-5 medium potatoes, thinly sliced Slice to about 1/4 inch thick.
  • 1 tbsp olive oil For sautéing the onion and garlic.
  • 1 medium onion, chopped Add flavor to the beef mixture.
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced Enhances overall flavor.
  • 1/2 cup beef broth Use for moisture in the casserole.
  • 1/4 cup milk (optional) For a creamier texture.
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese Feel free to customize your cheese.
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese Added on top for flavor.
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh parsley for garnish (optional) Add color when serving.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Slice the potatoes to about 1/4 inch thick. Dice the onion and mince the garlic.
Cooking
  1. In a skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Sauté the onion and garlic until fragrant.
  2. Add the ground beef and cook until browned. Season with Italian seasoning, paprika, salt, and pepper before removing from heat.
  3. Grease a baking dish. Layer half of the sliced potatoes, followed by half of the cooked beef. Sprinkle half of the cheddar cheese on top. Repeat with the remaining potatoes, beef, and cheese.
  4. Pour the beef broth (and the milk, if using) over the entire dish.
  5. Cover the baking dish with foil and bake for 35-40 minutes.
  6. Remove the foil, sprinkle the Parmesan cheese on top, and bake uncovered for an additional 10 minutes or until golden brown.
Serving
  1. Let it rest for 5 minutes, garnish with fresh parsley if desired, and serve!

Notes

You can assemble the casserole a day ahead and store it in the refrigerator. This recipe is naturally gluten-free. Customize your cheese for various flavors.
