Ingredients
  

For the Dough
  • 2 cups masa harina
  • 1 ¾ to 2 cups water Adjust as needed for consistency
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the masa harina, salt, and 1 ¾ cups of water. Mix until a dough forms, adjusting water as needed for consistency.
  2. Divide the dough into 16 equal portions and roll them into balls.
  3. Place a dough ball between two pieces of plastic wrap and flatten it using a tortilla press or pan to your desired thickness.
Cooking
  1. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and cook each gordita for about 10-15 seconds on each side until browned.
  2. Press down gently on the sides of each gordita to encourage them to puff up as they cook.
  3. Cut a slit in the gordita to create a pocket and fill with your desired ingredients.

Notes

Gorditas can be served warm, filled with various ingredients. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days or freeze for up to a month.
