Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 loaf Texas toast (or any thick cut bread)
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1.5 cups milk
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 0.5 teaspoon cinnamon (optional)

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Cut the bread into 'sticks'. Make three equal vertical cuts on each slice, aiming for about 1 inch wide.
  3. In a small bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla, and cinnamon until well combined.
  4. Prepare your baking sheet by spraying it with cooking spray.
  5. Dip each stick of bread into the egg mixture, allowing excess to drip off, and place them on the baking sheet. Repeat until all sticks are coated.
Baking
  1. Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes. Flip each stick halfway through to ensure both sides turn a beautiful golden brown.
  2. If they need more time, return them to the oven for a few more minutes.
  3. Let the sticks cool on the baking sheet; you can enjoy them immediately or freeze them.
Freezing
  1. Once cooled completely, place the tray directly in the freezer for about 1.5 hours to prevent them from clumping together.
  2. After 1.5 hours, transfer the sticks into a freezer bag or container and store them back in the freezer.
Serving
  1. To reheat, microwave the sticks for about 1.5 minutes until they’re warmed through. Serve with your favorite syrup.

Notes

These French toast sticks are versatile and can be served with various toppings such as fresh fruit, syrup, or whipped cream. Store them in a sealed freezer bag for up to three months.
