Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 2 cups orzo pasta
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 pound chicken sausage, sliced
  • 2 cups broccoli florets
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 4 cups chicken broth
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • to taste Salt and pepper
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Method

Cooking
  1. Begin by heating the olive oil in a large pot over medium heat.
  2. Add the sliced chicken sausage and cook for approximately 5–7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until browned.
  3. Toss in the minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant.
  4. Introduce the broccoli to the pot, cooking for another 2–3 minutes until it starts to soften.
  5. Pour in the orzo, chicken broth, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Bring everything to a boil, then reduce the heat and let it simmer.
  6. Cover the pot and cook for 10–12 minutes or until the orzo is tender and the liquid is mostly absorbed.
  7. Remove from heat and stir in the grated Parmesan cheese until it’s melted and well-combined.
  8. Serve hot, garnished with fresh parsley for a pop of color and flavor.

Notes

For a creamier texture, add a splash of cream or extra Parmesan just before serving. Feel free to substitute chicken sausage with turkey sausage or plant-based options.
