Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a baking dish with butter.
- In a saucepan over medium heat, combine heavy cream, milk, minced garlic, salt, black pepper, and ground nutmeg. Heat the mixture until warm but not boiling.
- Arrange half of the thinly sliced potatoes in the prepared baking dish.
- Pour half of the cream mixture over the potatoes.
- Sprinkle half of the cheddar cheese and Parmesan cheese over the first layer of potatoes.
- Repeat the layering process with the remaining potatoes, cream mixture, and cheese.
- Dot the top with butter and cover the dish with foil.
Baking
- Bake for 40 minutes covered, then remove the foil and bake for an additional 20 minutes, until the top is golden and bubbly.
- Allow to cool slightly before serving.
Notes
Serve garnished with fresh herbs like parsley. Pairs well with a simple green salad and meats. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days, or freeze for up to a month.
