Preparation
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large bowl, combine the diced butternut squash and sliced apples.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, melted butter, and a pinch of salt.
- Pour the mixture over the butternut squash and apples. Toss everything together until the squash and apples are well coated.
- Spread the coated mixture evenly in a baking dish.
- If using, sprinkle nuts over the top for added crunch.
- Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 40-45 minutes, or until the squash is tender.
- Once baked, remove from the oven and let it cool slightly before serving.
Notes
Best served warm. Pairs well with savory meats or as a dessert with ice cream. Can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days or frozen for up to 3 months.
