  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon Adjust to taste.

  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted Can substitute with coconut oil for a dairy-free option.
  • 1/2 cup pecans or walnuts (optional) Can be replaced with seeds for a nut-free option.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine the diced butternut squash and sliced apples.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, melted butter, and a pinch of salt.
  4. Pour the mixture over the butternut squash and apples. Toss everything together until the squash and apples are well coated.
  5. Spread the coated mixture evenly in a baking dish.
  6. If using, sprinkle nuts over the top for added crunch.
  7. Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 40-45 minutes, or until the squash is tender.
  8. Once baked, remove from the oven and let it cool slightly before serving.

Notes

Best served warm. Pairs well with savory meats or as a dessert with ice cream. Can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days or frozen for up to 3 months.
