Ingredients

Brownie Base
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter Use 1 stick
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder Use high-quality cocoa for best results
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8x8 inch baking dish or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.
  2. In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over low heat.
  3. Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract until well combined.
  4. Sift in the cocoa powder, flour, salt, and baking powder. Stir until just combined (do not over-mix).
  5. Transfer the brownie batter into the prepared baking dish, spreading it evenly.
Baking
  1. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the top is set and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  2. Allow the brownies to cool in the pan before cutting them into squares and serving.

Notes

For extra fudgy brownies, slightly underbake them. Add chocolate chips or swirls of peanut butter for extra flavor. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
